Recombinant human granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (rhG-CSF). Activates proliferation and differentiation of granulocyte progenitor cells, enhances granulopoiesis.
In humans it is indicated in the management of neutropenia. Neutrophil counts rise within 24 hours. Following discontinuation, neutrophil counts drop to normal after 5 days. There are few reports on the use of G-CSF in dogs and cats; filgastrim is more commonly used. Lenograstim is most likely to be used in the management of febrile patients with neutrophil counts <1x109/l.
