Non-absorbable hydrocarbon oil. Coats stool surface and intestinal mucosa, reduces water reabsorption from faecal mass and lubricates passage. Minimal systemic absorption when ingested undiluted; emulsified or finely-divided forms may be partially absorbed via lymphatics and deposit in mesenteric lymph nodes.
Constipation, faecal impaction, hairball / trichobezoar management in cats and rabbits. Adjunct in lead or lipid-soluble toxin reduction (rarely). CONTRAINDICATED in animals with dysphagia, megaesophagus, dyspnoea, profound debility, or risk of aspiration. Not for chronic use — interferes with fat-soluble vitamin (A, D, E, K) absorption.
