Remdesivir is a nucleotide analogue prodrug. It is metabolized intracellularly to its active form (GS-443902), which acts as an ATP analogue that inhibits RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) of coronaviruses. In cats, it is used for its activity against feline coronavirus causing FIP. Remdesivir is converted in vivo to GS-441524, which is also directly used as an antiviral for FIP.
Treatment of feline infectious peritonitis (FIP). Used as injectable form; GS-441524 (the metabolite) is also available in oral form. Major breakthrough in FIP treatment.
