Macrolide that binds FKBP12 and inhibits mTOR (mechanistic target of rapamycin), blocking T-cell proliferation at G1-S transition. Also inhibits angiogenesis and has anti-tumor properties. Unlike calcineurin inhibitors, does not inhibit calcineurin.
Investigational in veterinary medicine: immune-mediated diseases, organ transplant rejection prevention, adjunct anti-cancer therapy (anti-angiogenic)
