Venlafaxine is a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI). It inhibits reuptake of both serotonin (5-HT) and norepinephrine (NE) at neuronal synapses, with weak dopamine reuptake inhibition at higher doses. This dual mechanism may provide broader anxiolytic and antidepressant effects than SSRIs.
Treatment of anxiety disorders, compulsive behaviors, and fear-based behavioral problems in dogs and cats. Off-label use.
