Adrenaline exerts its effects via alpha-1, -2 and beta-1 and -2 adrenoreceptors.
Cardiac resuscitation, status asthmaticus and to offset the effects of histamine release in severe anaphylactoid reactions. The ophthalmic preparation is used in open angle glaucoma. The effects of adrenaline vary according to dose. Infusions of low doses mainly result in beta-adrenergic effects (increases in cardiac output, myocardial oxygen consumption, and a reduced threshold for arrhythmias with peripheral vasodilation and a fall in diastolic blood pressure).
