Microfilaricidal drug for dogs. It is also active against hookworms, roundworms, and whipworms.
Dithiazanine is used to eliminate heartworm microfilaria in dogs. It also has been used to treat some intestinal parasites. The filaricidal activity of the macrocyclic 250 Dithiazanine Iodide lactones (ivermectin and related drugs) has replaced drugs such as dithiazanine. Instead of using dithiazanine for microfilaricidal treatment, the American Heartworm Society recommends the use of macrocyclic lactones.
