Tadalafil is a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor. It inhibits PDE5, which is responsible for degradation of cGMP in pulmonary vascular smooth muscle. Elevated cGMP causes smooth muscle relaxation and vasodilation, reducing pulmonary arterial pressure. Longer duration of action than sildenafil.
Treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) in dogs. Off-label alternative to sildenafil with once-daily dosing.
