Agonist for receptors specific for prostaglandin F. It reduces intraocular pressure by increasing uveoscleral outflow and may have a profound effect on intraocular pressure in the dog.
Its main indication is in the management of primary canine glaucoma and it is useful in the emergency management of acute primary glaucoma (superseding mannitol and acetazolamide). There is little published data on its use in the cat but other tested topical prostaglandin analogues have been ineffective in this species.
