A chemical derivative of papaverine, an opium alkaloid that has a different chemical structure and pharmacological action from the opiates and which is used as a spasmolytic agent.
Dilation of the cervix and coordination of the uterine contractions to ease and shorten parturition. May be useful in dystocia where there is insufficient relaxation of the birth canal.
