Otitis externa in cats is less common than in dogs but may be caused by Otodectes cynotis (ear mites), polyps, or allergies. Ear mites account for over 50% of feline otitis cases. Nasopharyngeal polyps (inflammatory polyps) may extend from the middle ear and cause chronic otitis, stertor, and Horner's syndrome.
