Diminazene’s exact mechanism of action is not well understood. With Babesia, it is thought to interfere with aerobic glycolysis and DNA synthesis. Diminazene may not completely eradicate the organism but because it is slowly metabolized, suppression of recurrence of clinical signs or prophylaxis can be attained for several weeks after a single dose.
In veterinary medicine, dimenhydrinate is used primarily for its antiemetic effects for vomiting and in the prophylactic treatment of motion sickness in dogs and cats. 本藥治療指數窄，犬在單次 3.5 mg/kg 後也有致死性神經毒性病例系列。南非現行 Berenil R.T.U. 對犬明示只注射一次且不得超量或重複，與專案日前可執行的 24 小時後重複或每兩週重複相衝突。貓 cytauxzoonosis 的公開證據只有小型、異質或慢性帶原者失敗研究，歐盟建議更明示因不良反應不建議用於貓。又有單方、與 phenazone 複方及即用液／復溶粉的製劑差異，法規、寄生蟲種、物種、途徑與食用動物殘留規則也各不相同，所有數字必須先封鎖。
