Rivaroxaban is a direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC) that selectively inhibits Factor Xa, a key enzyme in the coagulation cascade. By blocking Factor Xa, it interrupts both the intrinsic and extrinsic coagulation pathways, reducing thrombin generation and clot formation. Does not require antithrombin III as a cofactor (unlike heparin).
Prevention and treatment of arterial thromboembolism (ATE) in cats with cardiomyopathy. Used alone or in combination with clopidogrel for high-risk cats (ACVIM consensus guidelines).
