Binds to post-synaptic nicotinic receptors resulting in paralysis and death of fleas and their larvae. Permethrin is a sodium ‘open channel blocker’ that causes prolongation of the action potential and therefore paralysis and death of fleas. It also acts as a tick repellent.
Treatment and prevention of flea and tick infestations in dogs and cats, and flea infestations in rabbits. Formulations with permethrin also have repellant activity against sandflies, mosquitoes and stable flies in dogs. For the treatment of flea infestations the additional use of an approved insect growth regulator is recommended and the product should be applied every 4 weeks to all in-contact cats, dogs and rabbits.
