Fluralaner is an isoxazoline that inhibits GABA-gated chloride channels and L-glutamate-gated chloride channels (GluCls) in arthropod nerve and muscle cells. Ingested by parasites during blood-feeding, it over-excites their nervous system causing paralysis and death. High selectivity for insect vs mammalian receptors.
Treatment and prevention of flea and tick infestations in dogs and cats. FDA-approved for dogs (2014) and cats (topical). Duration: 12 weeks for fleas and most ticks; 8 weeks for lone star ticks.
