Imipramine blocks noradrenaline and serotonin re-uptake in the brain, resulting in antidepressive activity.
Very broad spectrum of activity against aerobic and anaerobic Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It is particularly important for its activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Enterococcus. However it is not active against meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. Imipenem should not be considered for routine use in veterinary medicine and increased use will contribute to resistant infections and superinfections.
