法國鬥牛犬為椎間盤疾病（IVDD）的高風險品種，因軟骨營養不良（Chondrodystrophic）體型使椎間盤早期退化。Hansen Type I 為最常見類型，急性椎間盤突出可導致嚴重脊髓壓迫與後肢癱瘓。

長期計畫：癲癇每 6 月抽血追蹤藥物濃度 + 肝功能
嚴格限制
嚴格限制活動 (cage rest / crate rest)，尤其 IVDD 術後
期間：IVDD 術後 6-8 週，癲癇穩定後可漸進恢復
Grade I-III 保守或手術治療預後良好（>90% 恢復行走能力）。Grade IV 手術後約 90% 可恢復。Grade V（深部疼痛覺喪失）手術預後約 50-60%。深部疼痛覺喪失超過 48 小時者預後急遽下降。法國鬥牛犬同時存在半椎體可能增加手術複雜性。
