FeLV-associated myelosuppression can cause cytopenias of any or all cell lines. Cats rarely develop immune-mediated hemolytic anemia (IMHA) compared to dogs, but when it occurs it is often secondary to infection or neoplasia. Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) may complicate FIP, sepsis, or neoplasia.
Canine von Willebrand disease (vWD) is the most common inherited bleeding disorder; Type 1 is most prevalent (Doberman Pinscher). Factor-specific coagulation deficiencies (hemophilia A, hemophilia B) are X-linked. Non-regenerative anemia warrants bone marrow evaluation to rule out myelodysplasia or aplastic anemia.
